Description
The objective of the course is to provide the skills necessary to set up and analyze fluid flow simulations in rotating machines. The course consists of two sessions: in the first session, different simulation modes for turbomachinery ("Frozen Rotor", "Stage") are explained, depending on the objectives and operating conditions. Advanced models for transient simulation of fluid dynamic phenomena between blades ("Transient Rotor Stator" and "Transient Blade Row") are also introduced. Criteria for geometric model preparation and mesh generation are also discussed, with emphasis on techniques specific to turbomachines.
In the second session, post-processing dedicated to turbomachines is described, with features for visualizing results and calculating quantities of interest. The use of macros to automate post-processing operations is also illustrated. The course includes hands-on sessions, with proposed exercises based on real turbomachinery cases.
Target Audience
The course is intended for engineers, researchers and students who want to deepen their knowledge for turbomachinery analysis and design.
Pre-requisites
Basic knowledge of fluid mechanics is recommended. Previous participation in the basic CFD course is strongly recommended.
