Description
This course aims to provide fluid dynamic engineers with the skills needed to model heat transfer between fluids and solids using numerical simulations. The course covers the three modes of single-phase heat transfer: conduction, convection and radiation, and explains how to handle problems involving multiple modes. The course also introduces the basic concepts of simulating natural convection and selecting the most appropriate radiation model. The course alternates between theoretical lectures and practical exercises, in which participants will be able to apply the acquired knowledge to real cases. Upon completion of the course, learners will be able to define and solve CFD heat transfer problems, set thermal and radiation boundary conditions, define material properties, choose the most effective solution strategies, and analyze and interpret simulation results. Prior knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer concepts is required to take the course.
Target Audience
The course is intended for CFD engineers who intend to perform thermo-fluid dynamic simulations as part of product design and/or optimization.
Pre-requisites
Basic knowledge of fluid mechanics is recommended. Previous participation in the basic CFD course is strongly recommended.
