Description
This course provides the main skills to set up and solve an aeroacoustic analysis, i.e., the case where sound is generated aerodynamically by a fluid, usually air. After an initial general introduction to acoustics to define and recall basic concepts, the different methods currently available for CFD simulation of noise are addressed, from direct simulation to simpler methods for noise estimation to be used in the pre-design phase. The theoretical part will be complemented by examples and tutorials with hands-on sessions to better understand the use of the different methods with their respective advantages and disadvantages. The course aims to provide participants with more knowledge in the field of aeroacoustics both in terms of modeling and practical use of CFD tools. Therefore, guidelines are given to define the correct computational domain, generate an appropriate mesh, set up the best setup, and conduct the analysis of the results.
Target Audience
The course is intended for CFD engineers who intend to perform thermo-fluid dynamic simulations as part of product design and/or optimization.
Pre-requisites
Basic knowledge of fluid mechanics is recommended. Previous participation in the basic CFD course is strongly recommended.
