Duration

Tutor

Dario D'Agostino

Description

The objective of the course is to provide the user with the foundations to start a quick learning path in setting up dynamic analyses. The first analyzes are always the most difficult to deal with, both due to the lack of knowledge of the application and the lack of an overall vision of the latter which allows the user to outline the most effective method to deal with the specific industrial problem.

Numerous examples and specific workshops will be presented during the course to facilitate the learning of modeling and simulation techniques, based on the LS-Dyna calculation code commonly used for fast dynamics simulations.

Target Audience

Engineers intend to acquire the basic notions to be able to perform an explicit dynamic Finite Element Analysis.

Pre-requisites

Basic knowledge of the theories underlying numerical simulation.

Agenda

  • Theoretical notes on the theory of finite elements
  • Overview of the possible applications of explicit calculation codes
  • Explicit temporal integration
  • Organization of input files (Input deck syntax, Keyword Format), during the course reference will be made to LS-Dyna for practical examples
  • Guidelines for choosing the element type
  • Discrete elements (linear elastic and nonlinear elastic spring)
  • Beam elements
  • Shell elements
  • Solid elements
  • Nonlinearity of the material, plasticity models
  • Contacts formulations, overview
  • Boundary and Initial Conditions, Rigid Walls
  • Execution and solution progress monitoring
  • ASCII outputs
  • Binary outputs Solution controls
  • Software scalability (MPI and SMP)

Specific workshops will be presented during the course. The graphical interface used is LS-PrePost, which does not require a specific activation license.
