The Multi-Body-Dynamics (MBD) approach was developed in the USA between the seventies and the eighties to analyze the response of moving mechanisms. The first commercial MBD software was certainly ADAMS (Automated Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical Systems), which was fallowed soon by DADS (Dynamic Analysis and Design System). Starting from these early roots, many researchers worldwide have worked to develop new MBD tools and make significant steps forward. RecurDyn software (RECURsive + DYNamics), which was started in early nineties by FunctionBay in South Korea, deserves a special mention. The tool was born for efficiently simulating closed loop mechanisms, but thirty years of continuous development have made its new-generation solver more powerful than its direct competitors.
Simulation of flexible bodies and contacts are common critical aspects in multibody simulation. Indeed, discontinuous forces and vibrations both increase the non-linearity and the frequency content of the numerical models. When this happens, most old-fashion solvers stop or reduce their efficiency. That is why most engineers keep modelling multi-body systems by making use of rigid bodies and joints only.
RecurDyn solver has been designed since the very beginning to overcome those limits and is equipped with multiple features to make the simulation of flexible multi-body systems easier than ever. Thus, RecurDyn users can virtualize the real systems minimizing the approximations and being confident that the results will be highly reliable.
In this webinar, we will cover several aspects of the modelling procedures, reserving most time for highlighting the difference between linear flexibility (Component Mode Synthesis or Craig-Bampton method) and non-linear flexibility (RecurDyn's proprietary technology).
