Friction Stir Welding Simulation by Particleworks

This webinar will introduce and describe the application of meshless CFD to Friction Stir Welding (FSW).

FSW is a welding technique used to join different metals / materials by friction generated by a rotating tool.

The meshless CFD software Particleworks has been used to predict the interaction between the tool and the base material and the results have been validated in research projects. Specific models allow Particleworks to accurately predict the plastic flow of softened metals due to frictional heat for different material properties and tool shapes.

This webinar will introduce the simulation approach with practical examples and validation data from the scientific literature.

Topic areas

  • Friction Stir Welding process and simulation method based on meshless CFD.
  • Output from the FSW simulations and validation data.

Tips for designing grease-lubricated gearboxes: The SPN steering drive as an example

Designing efficient, grease-lubricated gearboxes—particularly for high-load applications like steering drives—presents unique engineering challenges. SPN Schwaben Präzision, in collaboration with EnginSoft GmbH, uses advanced simulation tools to optimize gearbox lubrication, focusing on lifetime performance and minimal maintenance. Grease offers advantages such as long-term stability and effective adhesion but requires precise control of quantity and targeted distribution to prevent wear or overheating.
