Forklift trucks are vehicles designed to lift and transport loads of considerable entity. As vehicles are used in a variety of conditions, the design of both chassis and safety structures requires considering dynamic loads. When the truck crosses an obstacle, brakes suddenly, or performs an emergency maneuver, the inertial effects greatly amplify the internal forces affecting the structures. The Multi-body simulation offers an efficient support to virtually analyze these conditions, anticipating the criticalities that would otherwise emerge only in the final testing of the truck. This translates into both time and cost saving, as there is no need of adjustments at the end of the design process.

CASE STUDY
Multibody simulation is integral to engineering, enabling precise analysis of structural loads and dynamic behaviours in complex systems. In the context of forklifts, where tyres play a critical role due to the absence of suspension systems, accurate tyre modelling is essential. This study develops and validates a hysteretic Bouc-Wen model for the radial dynamics of solid rubber tyres to enhance simulation reliability.
